Workshop on Human-friendly Service Description, Discovery and Matchmaking (Hf-SDDM)

to be held in conjunction with the 8th International Conference on Web Information Systems Engineering (WISE 2007)

The rise of service-oriented architectures will boost the amount of available (Web) services. This will put the question of proper (Web) service discovery and description on the agenda. Current technologies like UDDI and ongoing research efforts on semantic services are usually focused on technical, theoretical and correctness issues rather than on the ease of use. This results in high requirements on both the service requesters who are searching for services, and the service providers who have to contribute proper descriptions of their services. The aim of this workshop is to cover the following topics with a focus towards "real-world" usability and ease of use:

  1. Techniques and approaches for the description of the functionality and capability of services.
  2. Architectures, tools and algorithms for the discovery of services and their matching towards users needs.

Authors of submissions are encouraged to address one or more of the following questions if possible and suitable:

  • How can a business expert, who is not an expert in WSML or OWL-S, describe in an easy way the functionality of a service he wants to find? What are proper search strategies?
  • How can we ease the task of semantically describing services for the service developer?
  • How can we re-use existing natural language descriptions of service functionalities to support the generation of formal, semantic service descriptions?
  • How can we make ontology modelling of large real-world domains feasible and efficient?
  • How can we represent ontologies, semantic service descriptions and semantic queries in a way that they are traceable for non-experts?

Important Dates

  • July 15, 2007: due date for workshop papers submission
  • August 15, 2007: notification of workshop paper to authors
  • September 3, 2007: submission of camera ready version
